Psalm 103:2 “Bless the LORD, I tell myself, and never forget all His benefits.”
I was talking to a gentleman who was upset over decreasing work benefits. He’s paying more for his health insurance. It’s not covering his eyeglasses any more. His dental plan is not as good. He was reminiscing over “old days” when benefits were over the top. He even spoke of car and gas benefits he used to get.
God cares about benefits. From the time God instructed Moses and then Joshua to enter the promised land of blessing, He told them He would be there to help them and that there would be the supernatural benefits of His help and blessing to take on this exercise of their faith. His first benefit would be this: “I’ll go before you, be with you, and not fail or abandon you.” That was God’s exhortation through Moses to Joshua. Deuteronomy 31:7-8 “And Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong, courageous, and firm, for you shall go with this people into the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall cause them to possess it. It is the Lord who goes before you; He will go with you; He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you.”
God’s benefits did not stop with Moses and Joshua and those who first entered into the Promised Land. They extend to us today. Every day the devil is on a mission to “kill, steal, and destroy…” our lives according to John 10:10. God’s benefits are our supernatural covering when we access them by faith. Remember, when that when you are in fear, you are not in faith!
Psalm 103 reveals God’s heart and deep love. His words are the expression of the perfect exchange of hearts – our heart blessing God in adoration for who He is and God blessing us with the promise of His benefits expressed in Psalm 103. This isn’t some kind of poetic passage. They are God’s promise of blessings waiting for your faith to take hold of and believe by faith! Examine those promised blessings as your personal benefits from God. Count them and really see what they are and what they promise. He wants them for you!
From Psalm 103: “Bless – worship and adore the LORD, I tell myself; with my whole heart, I will bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, I tell myself, and never forget all His benefits. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He ransoms me from death (through Jesus) and surrounds me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagles! The LORD gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly…The LORD is merciful and gracious; He is slow to get angry and full of unfailing love… He has not punished us for all our sins, nor does He deal with us as we deserve. For His unfailing love toward those who fear Him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has washed memory of our rebellious acts as far away from us as the east is from the west. The LORD is like a father to His children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him. For He understands how weak we are… the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear Him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to His covenant, of those who obey His commandments!
The LORD has made the heavens His throne; from there He rules over everything. Bless the LORD, you angels of His, you mighty creatures who carry out His plans, listening for each of His commands. Yes, bless the LORD, you armies of angels who serve Him and do His will! Bless the LORD, everything He has created, everywhere in His kingdom. As for me–I, too, will bless the LORD.”
You see those blessings – the promise of benefits in Psalm 103. You’ll see them throughout the Word of God. God does want to bless you – to fill your life with His benefits and this is what you should extend your faith toward. They won’t fade out as they economy gets tough or as corporations and business tighten their belt. They come from a higher place!
Have you ever sat and looked out the window toward the sky and thanked Him in advance and contrary to all circumstance for these blessing in your life? Have you ever looked out and up and worshiped Him for who He is? Stand strong in faith, in worship, and in thanksgiving and as you honor and bless Him. Open your heart to receive “all His benefits” by faith.
In His Love,
