Fresh Manna

If you absolutely knew what the Lord wanted for you, would it affect how you think? It does for me! Why does it? Because God tells me that when we know His will and then ask in faith according to His will, great things happen! 1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.”
There are many promises from God’s Word spoken in the Old Testament to us. Do they reach into our New Testament lives to speak God’s will and desires for what He wants for us today? Galatians 3:8-9 (NLT) says, “What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would accept the Gentiles, too, on the basis of their faith. God promised this good news to Abraham long ago when He said, “All nations will be blessed through you.” And so it is: All who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith.”
This is saying that the blessings of old are God’s will for us today and reach into our lives today. This is what God wants for us. This is His will for our lives. When I read these verses, they were written in terms of one’s livelihood and manner of life back then. God’s blessings aren’t deterred because of modernization and technology. They are basically addressing one’s livelihood, personal well-being, and what they put their hand to AS THE FIRST VERSES set the parameters.
Deuteronomy 28: 1-14 (The Message Bible)
v. 1-6 If you listen obediently to the Voice of God, your God, and heartily obey all his commandments that I command you today, God, your God, will place you on high, high above all the nations of the world. All these blessings will come down on you and spread out beyond you because you have responded to the Voice of God, your God: God’s blessing inside the city, God’s blessing in the country; God’s blessing on your children, the crops of your land, the young of your livestock, the calves of your herds, the lambs of your flocks. God’s blessing on your basket and bread bowl; God’s blessing in your coming in, God’s blessing in your going out.
v. 7-10 God will defeat your enemies who attack you. They’ll come at you on one road and run away on seven roads. God will order a blessing on your barns and workplaces; he’ll bless you in the land that God, your God, is giving you. God will form you as a people holy to him, just as he promised you, if you keep the commandments of God, your God, and live the way he has shown you. All the peoples on Earth will see you living under the Name of God and hold you in respectful awe.
V. 11-14 God will lavish you with good things: children from your womb, offspring from your animals, and crops from your land, the land that God promised your ancestors that he would give you. God will throw open the doors of his sky vaults and pour rain on your land on schedule and bless the work you take in hand. You will lend to many nations but you yourself won’t have to take out a loan. God will make you the head, not the tail; you’ll always be the top dog, never the bottom dog, as you obediently listen to and diligently keep the commands of God, your God, that I am commanding you today. Don’t swerve an inch to the right or left from the words that I command you today by going off following and worshiping other gods.
When I get up in the morning, after do my exercises and get ready for my day, I get on my knees next to my bed and I thank God for these blessings provided and reaching into my life through my faith in Jesus Christ. They are His will. I know that it might appear that you have to live perfectly before the Lord. That is the effort He wants us always to make. But who can do that? No one! That is why Jesus paid the price for us. That is why in 1 John 1:9 He made provision for us to confess our sins directly to him every time we do sin and have it immediately washed away. Jesus is our righteousness, or you could say He’s the perfection for our imperfection! I sincerely try, but He has done it. And the blessing is, by faith, for us today!
2 Cor. 5:21 (NLT) “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”
