The Empowering Cycle of God’s Love

God loves us so very much that it’s beyond our ability to comprehend it without the help of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit not only helps us see life through God’s eyes, but reveals the magnitude of His love which is beyond human comprehension. Imagine love perfectly pure in judgment, faithfulness, and motivation—directed at you!

The Apostle Paul expressed it being so great that we needed to pray to ask the Lord to help us grasp the magnitude of God’s love toward us! Ephesians 3:18-19 (NLT)  “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

Jesus is the manifestation of that love. What He did for you had and has the potential to help you live the purpose-filled life and destiny that He created you to experience.

Renee and I are empty-nesters. Our children are all adults, married with children. So, in this season of life we’ve made changes we couldn’t make when we had our kids at home. One of them is to get up early most every morning and go for a 2-3 mile walk. We start out talking and catching up on our previous day, and then we pray together while we walk. We start off every prayer-time simply thanking the Lord for leading us into this wonderful habit of walking and spending time with Him. We thank Him for the beauty of nature around us—no matter what the season is we are in. Each season has its own display of beauty. We then thank God for things we are so thankful and appreciative for. In just doing that, it seems to lift our heart.

We are very busy people and have exhausting days. It would be easy to become overwhelmed with the demands on our life. We have learned that in those moments of taking in the beauty and splendor of what God has created, and in thanking the Lord for His goodness toward us, the Holy Spirit opens the eyes of our heart to see even more. The more we do see His goodness in our life and thank Him for it, the more His goodness and help becomes visible! The Holy Spirit helps us see God’s hand of help on all that we are doing. That only builds our faith and trust in Him and opens the door for more!

Every time the eyes of my heart are open to see His goodness in my life, something instantly happens. I feel humbled knowing how undeserving I am of anything from Him. I know it isn’t about what I deserve, yet I find myself wishing I was more deserving of His love for me. In these times, it makes me want to repent of any and everything in my heart and life that is less than what I should be returning to the Lord in love and obedience. His goodness has that effect on me. Romans 2:4 (NLT) says, “Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?”

The Apostle Paul said this was one of the results that should happen from God’s goodness touching our lives.

In the big picture, loving and appreciating God’s love toward us through Jesus is something powerful to meditate on. It will open your eyes to see more of His love. It will help you see how involved He is in your life, And it will humble you which in turn motivates you to return your love to Him through a more pure life in Christ.  It is a wonderful cycle of love that is full of insight, blessing & God’s power!

Psalm 103:1-5 (NIV) “Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits– who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
