Jesus Died For Your Salvation and Your Healing

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

This past week, the symptoms of a cold and flu hit me hard, fast, and furious. I was bed bound for a few days. It made me mad. I rarely ever get sick and I felt violated. Flu symptoms had tried to come on me a couple of different times over the years, but I resisted them and rebuked them in Jesus name. They never did fully come upon me. That was not the case this time. I hurt so bad all I wanted to do was lay still and sleep. When I was awake, it was painful.

I didn’t know if I was going to get Fresh Manna out but the thought of not getting it out bothered me. I had never missed a day (except on vacation) since I started writing it almost sixteen years ago. I pushed through and wrote it anyway because I wanted to make the devil pay for attacking me with sickness!

Jesus really did die, not only for our sins, but for our sicknesses. That truth gets blurred and confused when we see all the sickness and pain in the world. The question that’s always asked is, Why God? Why do you allow it?  There are theological answers to that question, but they will not fit in the space I have today. But it’s not about God allowing it. The Bible says we’ve been made in the image of God and so we all remind Satan of Him. Attacks in our life are about Satan’s jealousy of God and hating all of God’s creation. That includes every human being. We aren’t all theologians and may not all know the scriptures that could help us understand some of these deeper truths, but we can absolutely know things about God and His will for mankind just by knowing His character and Jesus’ words and actions.

Hosea 4:6 (NKJV) tells us that a lack of knowledge will hurt us! “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”  Jesus revealed His heart and will in John 10:10 (NKJV) “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”  He wants us to experience an abundant life, not a life stuck in bed sicker than a dog over the course of a week, a month, or ongoing. I never forget this truth the entire time I am resisting sickness and the devil.

In Matthew chapter 8 we read about Jesus healing lepers, healing a centurion’s servant, and then after a long day, going home to Peter’s house to rest. Peter’s mother-in-law had been sick with a fever. (I can relate!) He ministered to her and she was immediately healed. He ministered to others that came to their house knowing that Jesus, whose reputation for healing had spread, was staying there. We read what happened and WHY it happened. Pay attention to both.

Matthew 8:14-17 “When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”

This verse originally comes from Isaiah 53. This chapter is Isaiah describing the mission and works of the Messiah that would come. It describes Jesus taking the punishment we deserve for our sins upon Himself. He paid the price for us so that we could be forgiven and healed. When Jesus was physically healing these people, He was fulfilling what Isaiah prophesied about Him all those years earlier. Jesus healed to fulfill the purpose of the Messiah. Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV) says, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”

Satan may try to beat us down but at those times but it’s important to let faith arise in your heart and say, Jesus, you bore my sins and sicknesses. By your stripes, we were healed. If I was, then I am healed. I receive and thank you for what you bore upon the cross for me, In Jesus name I pray.

As you all know, when you are under attack, you don’t feel much like doing anything. Satan’s purpose for attacking us with sickness or in any other area of our life is to make us feel helpless, abandoned and hopeless. It’s to get us to isolate ourselves, give up, and die. He wants us to think he (the devil) is a fiction movie icon and the object of Hollywood and Halloween fantasy. He wants us to think that God is uncaring and lets sickness ravage this world. Jesus wants us to remember that He is the healer. He paid the price for us to be healed.

When you are under any kind of attack from the enemy you may feel like a piece of old chewed gum on the bottom of a shoe. Instead, rise up and thank Jesus for being your Healer and never stop looking to Him as the author and finisher of your faith. He hates what the devil does in this earth. This is why He came, to pave the way for our salvation and pay the price for restoration in every area of our life, including our healing. 1 John 3:8 NKJV “…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”

I feel so much better just proclaiming it to you all! “He is my healer!”

Psalms 103:1-4 (NKJV) “Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies”
