Part Two: Have a Better Day!

by Pastor Tim Burt

Yesterday, I began writing to you about what to do when it feels like your having a bad day. Do you just cave into it? Do you surrender and become its victim? The problem with allowing that to happen is that Satan will accommodate it every time. He’ll work to ruin your day! It’s who he is. It’s what he does. His destiny is the eternal lake of fire and he wants to deceive and destroy as many lives as possible before that time comes. Jesus said in John 10:10 (NIV), “The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Satan is also called the deceiver, the destroyer, a liar, the accuser—all well deserved names that characterize who he is. He is the author of all evil. He hates God and he hates you because you love God! He’ll use any and every tool available to bring you down! Should that make us tremble? Should that make us afraid? Are we helpless to his attacks? Do we have to become victims? Absolutely Not! Not if you’re a child of God!

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” This verse says “…seeking whom he may devour.” Whom is questionable in this verse meaning he can’t devour everyone, so he has to find the ones he can. God tells us to be sober and vigilant—on the watch, so we don’t get devoured.

Satan is always out to destroy God’s people but, God has give us the name of Jesus to rebuke and resist the devil. He doesn’t want us to let the devil ruin our day or life. God doesn’t want us to feel hopeless. God wants us to remember we are in a covenant relationship with Him and He is there to help us always if we have faith and trust in that promise! Psalm 46:1 (NIV) says,God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”  Psalm 50:15 (NKJV) says, Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”

Let me show you more about the secrets of God and the power of His name. Remember when Moses was leading the children of Israel out of Egypt? He came up to the Red Sea with Pharaoh coming quickly behind him and with them having no place to go. It appeared they were all about to be devoured! The Lord spoke to Moses at the time and told him what to do. Jesus’ name and authority were hidden in God’s instruction to Moses. We see it in Exodus 14:16 KJV. “But lift thou up thy rod (branch), and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. When Moses held the rod out over the Red Sea, the Red Sea divided and they walked through but Pharaoh’s army drowned as the sea came back together on them.”

The word for rod in the Hebrew means branch. Did you know that “Branch” was one of the names God gave Jesus in the prophesies of His coming. We see it in Isaiah 11:1 KJV,  “And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.  And Jeremiah 23:5-6 KJV, “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and He shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which He will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’”

These verses are talking about Jesus coming from the lineage of Jesse and David. He was called “a Branch” —the same word for Moses’ rod over the Red Sea. Moses rod represented the power and authority of the name of Jesus leading to their miracle—their deliverance from Pharaoh’s army, and Pharaoh’s (or Satan’s) defeat.

Jesus is your branch! He is your authority and your defense against Satan’s attacks. That’s who you are. Isaiah 54:17 KJV is your heritage and God’s promise to you! It’s who you are. “But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you will succeed. And everyone who tells lies in court will be brought to justice. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

Satan would like to make life this never-ending grind. Knowing who you are in Christ, knowing the depth of God’s love toward you, knowing the power and promise of His Word and the name of Jesus, are all divine insights and promises for you to exercise your faith in. Learn to rebuke the devil! James 4:7 (NLT) says, “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  Kick him out! Say it! “I rebuke you Satan in Jesus name! You are not devouring me! Flee in Jesus name. Learn and walk in this knowing  God is on your side and for you. Pray and rebuke the enemy of soul and thank God for His love and desire to turn your day for good! It’s a secret of God that He doesn’t want secret to you!

Hosea 4:6 (NKJV) “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”
