Past Ministry Updates

Pastor Tim and Renee’s 2018 Year End Ministry Update

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!

Renee and I wanted to reach out and simply say thank you for the love, prayers, and support you’ve shown this ministry. Because of you, our increase in reaching others with the love and gospel of Jesus Christ, with the instruction and encouragement from His word, has increased and expanded further around the world for His glory. It would not be possible without people like you, and we thank you so very much for it.

In 2018, Fresh Manna continued to go out four times per week. It has now reached into 217 countries which is mind-boggling to us.

I’ve now been writing Fresh Manna for 18 years. Between writing Fresh Manna and sharing scripture and inspiration on Twitter, our reach has grown between 4 to 6 million people virally on a daily basis and occasionally reaching 8 million. I could send you a volume of notes from people who have expressed appreciation, testimonies, stories of life-change, and salvations from reading Fresh Manna and Twitter. When I first started writing, I knew I was simply planting seeds in the lives of many who had never read a Bible, but I could not have imagined this kind of fruit. We give God the glory for it.

I spend an average of 14 hours writing Fresh Manna per week, and another 16 hours writing and responding to people on social media. It has been a tremendous way to live out this new season of life since resigning from 35 years of pastoring.

Renee and I both still speak out and minister in churches. I do limited church consulting. Renee leads missions trips, some of which I join her in. And we are having an ever-increasing impact on the mission field. In addition to reaching Peru, with the help of two precious pastors and friends of ours, Pastors Dave and Jeanne Kaufman from Brookings, South Dakota, we are now also reaching into India and Africa. We also support an amazing inner city outreach in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with Pastors Mike and Vicki Bang.  We also worked with  business/missionary friends Jeff and Lauren Matt, who were recently in India preaching the gospel and ministering to the poor. We provided 100 blankets that they went out on the streets to the homeless and gave out. All of these meet our goals of reaching the world with the gospel, and reaching the unsaved, hurting, and impoverished with the love and gospel of Jesus Christ.

I’ve said this before and will keep saying it because it always seems to be on people’s minds. We don’t take any salary from this ministry. To the contrary, we contribute our own funds into it. Every penny of what you donate is used first and foremost to reach the mission field, aiding missionaries and reaching out and ministering to the needs of the impoverished in third world countries. We continue to keep the administrative costs associated with Fresh Manna at a bare minimum, which is the still the largest way we reach people with the gospel so that every dollar you give is truly all about missions. We are experiencing tremendous fruit and because of your prayers and giving, the fruit we see daily is your fruit also.

2019 will start strong. Renee is leaving for a missions trip on January 9th (I am staying behind to graduate from the U of M Master Gardener program.) We will also help sponsor a missions trip to Africa leaving on January 9th. We are thanking God in advance for the opportunity to be a blessing to many through these trips.

We pray that your 2019 is blessed with joy unspeakable! 1 Peter 1:8 says, “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” We pray for you and your loved ones daily and ask God to bless you for your generosity.  We pray that God speaks to and brings His guidance to your heart for the steps in your life that lie ahead. We pray that His favor and grace helps you overcome every obstacle, and that you will bear fruit in all God has called you to do. Thank you again for this generous gift and God bless you richly!

Proverbs 19:17: “Whoever is generous to the poor, leads to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed!”

Our sincere love and appreciation,
Pastor Tim & Renee Burt

June/2018  It’s time for an update! I’m not going to write much about Fresh Manna or Twitter other than we are experiencing tremendous fruit continuously expanding our reach! Instead, I’ve asked Renee to write the following update since this is mostly about her latest trip. And we both want to say, Our fruit is your fruit, so thank you so very much. Your belief and trust, and your prayers and contributions in our efforts touches millions of lives and we are so thankful to you for being a part of what we are doing! Words seem inadequate for the appreciation we feel! God bless you!

Renee’s Update: I’m just back from leading my fifth mission team to Lima, Peru, and this trip was the most impacting of all of them. Our mission was to bring a touch of God’s love to everyone we met. So we armed ourselves with 12 large suitcases, filled to the brim with 600 pounds of donated new clothing, toys, medical supplies, towels & toiletries, makeup & lotions, My Pillows, handmade blankets, food, and gifts. We also brought $2,500 to support missionaries and ministries we partnered with throughout our trip, to fund service projects we were a part of, and to buy much needed supplies for the places/people we visited.

We were a small team of women… only 6 of us… and yet, because of all the generous donations, we were able to do so much to bless and refresh people wherever we went. And in that process, we were overwhelmingly blessed, just like the Bible says in Proverbs 11:25 NLT: “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” And you were a part of that happening!

It would take too long to tell you everything that happened, but I want to share a few of the things that impacted our hearts the most. Twice, we were able to spend some time at Casa Hogar Padre Martinho, a home for severely disabled children. The relationships we’ve developed with these children over the years is so incredibly heartwarming, and to see their smiles and hear their laughter (even though most aren’t able to speak) when we played with them was a gift from God to us. We also were able to bring in much needed supplies, give gifts to both the children and workers, and leave a generous donation to help with expenses.

On two other days, we met with families who left their homes and all of their possessions, except for what they could fit in a suitcase and backpack, because of the hyperinflation that is making life unbearable in Venezuela. Most of the people we met were professionals in their country…lawyers, teachers, psychologists, administrators, professors… who are now refugees in Lima. Some have jobs now, but others have just arrived and are trying to make money on the streets and on buses by selling candy. It’s unimaginable what these families have had to endure…starting with a dangerous 6-day bus ride. In one week alone, two buses went off the road, tumbled down a cliff and everyone died.

We were able to bring much needed clothing, food, towels, toiletries, and My Pillows…along with listening to their stories and praying for them. One man had been the worship leader in his church in Venezuela. We were all in tears as he sang a worship song for all of us. I’ll never forget the overwhelming feeling of wanting to do so much more for these sweet people.

Some of the other events we were able to be a part of included making and then distributing food and toys at an outreach event for kids…and helping at a Saturday kids club, both in very poor neighborhoods of Lima. Being a part of bringing smiles to their faces was the best!

I also once again shared my testimony at the Grace House, an outreach for girls who have suffered from physical abuse, eating disorders or other addictions. One of the girls who was there that day heard my testimony four years ago and told me it was life-changing for her, and now she helps at the very place where she was helped. We also brought each one of them a bag filled with make-up, and they couldn’t have been more excited! It seems like a little thing, but one girl shared that she had never owned her own makeup… and so to her, it showed her God cared even about the little things we hope for!

There are so many stories I could share of hearts that were touched… but I really do believe our hearts were touched the most. We had opportunity after beautiful opportunity to be hands and hearts to love and serve others with His love. We’re forever changed… and we can’t thank you enough for helping to send us!

January/2018  It’s time for an update! 2018 is off to a great start, and it’s been a fabulous year already! Renee and I left for a mission trip to Peru on New Years Eve 2017.  We reunited in Lima with our daughter and family who are pastors and missionaries in Peru. They work for the most wonderful church, Camino De Vida, and I was able to minister at three of their services. Renee and I were also able to connect with an orphanage for severely disabled children, who because of the severity of their physical problems are never adopted. We brought many supplies and resources to help support the orphanage and missionaries there.  It was a shorter trip for me than for Renee, because I had to be back for obligations at home. She continued to stay in Lima to be a blessing for an extra week.  When Renee and I talked about the trip afterwards, we felt like we had an army of people praying, because it was the most seamless and fruitful trip! Thanks to each of you who were praying and to those who donate to our efforts. Your rewards are eternal!

Renee and I have now entered our first full year of not being on staff at a church.  We resigned last May 31, after 35 years in ministry, to focus on our growing and expanding Tim and Renee Burt Ministries. We are using all we know and have learned over the years to reach the world with the gospel and love of Jesus Christ. We are seeing incredible fruit daily in our efforts. People write me every single day about how Fresh Manna and my Tweets teach them about Jesus and God’s Word, and how it has led them to the Lord or changed their life. I’ve been writing Fresh Manna since 2000. There were readers from three more countries this year, now making it having been read in 217 countries. I was followed on Twitter by over 25,000 more people in 2017, with now over 174,000 followers. And through Twitter and Fresh Manna, our efforts  on average reach between 3 to 6 million people a day with the love and encouragement of God’s word.

We don’t take any salary from this ministry. Every penny is used for ministering the gospel in churches and conferences, online and on the mission field, aiding missionaries, and for reaching and ministering to the impoverished in third world countries! I’ll be adding more information shortly about our efforts reaching India and Africa. We thank you for being a part. This is your fruit also!

This is a very short overview of what we are doing though this ministry, and we cannot thank you enough for your prayers and donations.  We praise God for what the Lord is doing through the two of us, and through all of you, through your help. God bless you. We pray for you daily!

Proverbs 19:17  “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.”

Pastor Tim and Renee’s 2017 Ministry Update

This year, Renee and I entered a new season of life. On May 31, 2017, we resigned from our jobs at church, after serving and pastoring there for 33 years. We watched the church grow from about 600 people when we first came there in 1984, to about 10,000 people when we stepped down. In my role as an Associate Pastor, and Renee’s role as a Pastor, we poured everything we were and had to give into the congregation. We loved our church family and always will. But about four years ago, the Lord began to speak to my heart about the importance of preparing for transition. I obeyed the Lord and began working on a five-year plan to raise up leadership to take over everything I was doing. Although five years was the plan, everyone was truly ready in four years.

About that time, our desire to reach out on the mission field also began to grow. When I started writing Fresh Manna 18 years ago, it was simply an act of obedience. I had been running marathons at that time and often ran two hours each day as a part of my daily routine. One morning, the Lord spoke to my heart on one of those runs about spending time writing down insights He was ministering to me, so I wouldn’t forget them. That soon turned into trading my 2 hours of running for 2 hours of writing. Fast forward: that turned into my Fresh Manna website, which after 18 years has now been read in 217 countries (195 official countries and 22 unofficial countries.) God also used my son-in-law, Daniel, who is a pastor and missionary in Peru, to exhort me to learn how to use Twitter. He fully believed it would one day help me reach people all around the world. Today that is a reality.

Almost every day, through Twitter and Fresh Manna, I’m reaching between 3 to 6 million people. Seeing the fruit of these efforts continually grow, played into Renee’s and my decision to transition out of our jobs at church, and to redirect our efforts full-time into Tim & Renee Burt ministries. We’re confident it was God’s perfect timing. We’ve been speaking at conferences, churches, on the mission field, and online through Fresh Manna ever since. And it’s also allowed to catch up with our children and grandchildren who live in Minnesota, Texas, California, and Peru.

For the first 16 years that I wrote Fresh Manna, I never asked for one penny from our readers for anything I did. It was my way of reaching outside of the four walls of the church to be a blessing. Every year, there were always some who asked if they could send money, and I would try to discourage it. Finally in 2016, I felt peace to put a donate button on our website, but to say very little about it. I didn’t want to discourage one person from reading, for fear I was after their money. Renee and I funded most of everything ourselves (with the exception of one graciously kind person, Wayne, who sent money despite our discouragement to do so).

Since June 1, we no longer receive a paycheck, and yet, we’re expanding our efforts in all that we do. Our mission field reach has extended from Peru, to small beginnings in India and Africa. We’re trying to follow the Lord’s leading the best we know how. And that brings me to the point of this letter beyond the update. If Fresh Manna has been a blessing to you, would you consider sending any size one-time gift, or if you so desire, a reoccuring gift, or consider us in your end-of-the-year giving. If you’ve had days when Fresh Manna has taught, encouraged, inspired, and blessed you, then you might consider sowing into our work, so that it can continue to reach and help other also. Our donate button leads to Paypal. The reason we like and use Paypal is because they discount their rates for non-profits and have excellent record-keeping which greatly helps us minimize administrate work. Paypal allows you to use credit cards and is very easy to use, even giving you a continuing monthly giving option. Enough said…whether you give or not, please know that we’ll be here to minister to you each week, to pray for you daily, and to ask you to pray for us as we can continue to reach the world with the gospel and the touch of the love of Jesus in all we put our hand to.

Mark 16:15 Jesus said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”

he returned to his bed to also sleep while the wind blew.

MORAL: When you’re prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically, you have nothing to fear.
Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life?

Proverbs 12:24 (MSG) “The diligent find freedom in their work; the lazy are oppressed by work.”

In His Love,
Pastor Tim Burt
