Fresh Manna

Do you ever feel like life’s not fair? If I think back to when I heard that the most in my life, I remember it coming at times from the mouth of my children. It’s funny how close children look for fair from mom and dad when dealing with their siblings. They are watching want to make sure that everyone gets the same thing when it comes to getting something good, yet they want special grace when they are being punished. As most every parent knows, fair is law! “Mom, Johnny got 13 Skittles and I only got 12! – That’s not fair!”

As Renee and I matured in our parenting, we realized that our children were not clones, but four unique individuals with separate personalities, all different and needing different things from us. We had to balance fair accordingly. Some needed more discipline. Some needed more help. Some deserved greater rewards as they had to work harder to achieve their obligations and goals.

I share this to say that we treated each one of our children differently and that could be perceived as unfair. It wasn’t. We learned to be consistent in giving love while realizing they were are all wired differently and needed to be dealt with individually.   

Many ignorantly think God isn’t fair. They feel this way because they see some people with so many resources and affluence while others have so little. Others see God as not fair because they’ve seen bad things happen to good people. And others because they’ve seen people seem to get away with great evil while others were punished for it. It’s easy to understand how people who do not know God intimately through His Word could feel this way. Those things do happen! What the world cannot know or understand without Jesus’ help, is that there are demonic influences in this world led by a devil that is evil and hates mankind as we see in Ephesians 6:12 (NIV). “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” 

It is Satan that’s behind the evil in the world. God is not! God cannot just wipe out Satan and evil because if He did, He’d have to wipe out all those who have sinned and hurt others. We’d all be guilty of that! So we’d all have to be wiped out. God is not in the wiping-out business. He loves all His creation and desires all men to be saved, their sins forgiven, and given the gift of eternal life in Heaven. But that choice to receive Jesus and the forgiveness of sins has to come from our own free will by our own choice. God’s love gives us free choice. And so, though He is working every second of every day trying to influence our heart with the knowledge of His love and His gift of eternal life through Jesus, many just don’t know He is, or for various wrong reasons, aren’t making that choice. And so there is evil in this world and we all unjustly suffer from it. Very little in life is fair and you need to know that so it doesn’t destroy you with disappointment and disillusionment of God. God is not the problem. Satan’s antics and mankind’s yielding to poor and sinful choices are the problem! If you watch the news, you know that’s true because you see it every day, all around you! And God will eventually judge Satan to his permanent abode called Hell!

Not only is God not unfair, but He is merciful and full of grace! God’s grace (His supernatural mercy and help) is available to each of us individually, to help us navigate life according to who and how He has made us. And His desire is to help us succeed at a higher level than we could imagine. But, we have to have faith in God’s grace and we have to put forth sincere effort while leaning on His grace to help us. Hebrews 4:16 (NLT) “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”    

God is perfectly just. No one gets away with anything although God is much more graceful to the humble because of their repentant attitude than the prideful that He resists. Psalms 103:10 NLT says, “He does not punish us for all our sins; He does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.”     We can count on God being just. We can know that no matter what a situation looks like, God keeps the books and He is the perfectly fair judge and jury. Because of that, instead of focusing on and being burdened by the compulsion for fairness and justice of situations that are beyond our reach or scope of achieving, we should focus on God being the judge and leaving those concerns of injustice at His feet through prayer. God will manage them and your prayers of faith will be effectual. He is gracious and will do the right thing and you can trust that. In the end, God will see to it that justice has been executed for every situation.

God is just. He knows just how to deal with each of us. Leave it to Him and move on. You have got way too much to do to be distracted over what’s fair. You can obtain His supernatural peace knowing that He knows and will bring justice!

Psalms 71:16 (NLT) “All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign Lord. I will tell everyone that you alone are just.”
