Fresh Manna

Have you ever felt like your life’s off course and you aren’t walking it out like you should? There are few things worse than feeling this way and yet continuing to do the same old thing while hoping for different results is considered insanity. So what’s the answer? How can you break out of this? How can you change directions and feel better about how your walking out your life? 

Deuteronomy 30:11 NIV gives us a clue. It says, “For what I am commanding you to do IS NOT too difficult for you, NOT too mysterious for you to figure out, nor beyond your reach (of doing.)“

Sometimes the Lord is impressing us to make simple changes. Oh I know they may not seem simple when He puts them on our heart, but they really are. We allow our imagination to make them more complicated than they truly are. Why do we do that? I won’t try to answer that. The important thing to know is this; let the answer to many or your problems, come simply. The are often clear directives from God. Don’t be like a whiny child. If you do, your imagination will exaggerate the problem and build insurmountable (and false) reasons of why you can obey what He’s directing you to do. Come on! We’ve all see the soldier salute to his commanding officer and say Yes sir when we know he didn’t want to. Can we learn to shut our whiny selves down and say Yes Sir to God? Ask the Holy Spirit within you to help you and strengthen you. Keep praying until you see that strength come and then walk in it–even if it takes days or weeks! (I promise it will come.) God honestly did make it uncomplicated for those who have Jesus in their heart and His Holy Spirit helping from within.

In the Old Testament we read about a great leader named Naaman who needed help from God. The answer God would give him was simple. But for Naaman, it seemed too simple to obey and that was the problem. He felt it needed to be more complicated and make a greater demand on himself.

Naaman was the captain of the King of Syria’s army. He was considered a great and powerful leader and honorable man. Suddenly he finds out he has leprosy. Through a series of events he came to the prophet Elisha for help. Elisha was willing to help him, but he didn’t even need to meet with Naaman. Elisha simply sent his servant to tell Naaman, go dip in the river Jordon seven times. Naaman’s pride almost got in the way of his miracle. He was a distinguished leader. How dare Elisha give instructions through his servant. And the idea of getting in and out of a dirty river seven time? How insane does that sound. 

We read in 2 Kings 5:11-14 (NIV) “But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than any of the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them and be cleansed?” So he turned and went off in a rage. Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.”

 

Naaman wanted to make something simple, hard. God wanted to make what was impossible, simple! God wants to help you get on a path that feels right for your life. What’s your answer? 2 Corinthians 6:2 (NLT) tells us. “…Indeed, God is ready to help you right now. Today is the day of salvation.” When the word of God says, “Today is the day of your Salvation” it is saying, Today is the day of your deliverance, of your victory, of the restoration of your health, of the increase of your prosperity. That is what the Greek word for salvation means!

So, what should you do? First, let the words of your mouth agree with God by faith. Romans 10:8 (TLB) says, “For salvation that comes from trusting Christ—which is what we preach—is already within easy reach of each of us; in fact, it is as near as our own hearts and mouths.”  You have to learn to begin to say it! Learn to say, “Heavenly Father, I thank you today that I am not lethargic. I am not dull. I am your child through the precious blood of your Son, Jesus. I thank you that I have your Spirit and that you lead me through your Word. As you speak to me through your Word, I will obey and make the changes you lead me to. I’ll keep it simple. I’ll just begin to do it and draw strength from you at every step. Today is my day of Salvation and it comes to me simply like it did to Naaman. I will do what you tell me. End of story. Thank you for helping me to rise up and begin to make the changes you instruct me in, in Jesus name, Amen!”

Now, let God speak to you through His Word, and don’t make it complicated. You’ll know when God is speaking to you through His Word. When He does, simply respond and obey. Just go do it in the strength of the Lord. Keep with it and change will come. You’ll soon feel better about the course of your life!

Proverbs 3:6 “Seek His will in all you do, acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He shall direct your paths.”
