About those Mountain-Sized Problems of Yours!

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

As I write to you today, I know that there are those of you that have issues or problems that are so huge, they feel like mountains in your life. The bigness and weight of them might feel like they are greater than you can bear. Satan loves to magnify problems in our life, and when they feel big, they strip us of almost all hope. That’s not good!

Proverbs 13:12 NKJV says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick…” When our heart becomes sick, our perspective on the future turns dark.  We start thinking wrong. We can become desperate, confused, and have thoughts that lead to more wrong actions—ultimately making an already bad problem, worse!

Worldly people without God, have no remedy for this kind of burden and hopelessness. There have never been more mental health issues in the world than there is today! There are many people walking through life with what they consider, mountain size problems. It’s burying them in despair. Although the world has no remedy, Jesus does! He says in John 16:33 (RSV), “I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

The world does not expect mountains to move for them. Mountains are just that—immovable. That is except for Jesus! He expects mountains to move for Him. That is what makes Him able to overcome the world. He gives us words such as we see in Mark 11:22-24 (NKJV) “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

Without the help of the Holy Spirit who brings revelation and insight, those words only confuse us. “Speak to a mountain to be removed and cast in the sea.” Really? We argue in unbelief, He must have made a mistake. He couldn’t have meant what He said. But, when we read all these words of Jesus, our spirit is sparked with hope, and rightly so! We can pray for the mountain to be moved and it will? Yes! Remember, Jesus said, “But take heart! I have overcome the world.” When Jesus says, “Take heart…” He means take hold of this hope and take it deep in your heart. He then says, Speak to that mountain in faith! Go speak to the mountain and tell it to move! You are not of this world because you belong to God. Why else would God tell you to speak to a mountain? Who from this world would do that?

Then Jesus says, “I assure you…” What does that mean? It means He wants you to be sure you know that what He is saying to you is truth! He says, “I assure you that you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea and your command will be obeyed.” Jesus isn’t looking in a mirror saying this to Himself. He is saying this to His disciples. He is saying this to you!
He continues by saying,  All that’s required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart. Listen to Me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you will have it. Of course He is speaking of things that are according to His will, but, hopefully, that is most things you pray for! He follows with something very important for you to take care of first before you try to move this mountain. He wants your heart to be cleansed and pure. He says in, Mark 11:25 (NKJV) “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.”

Unforgiveness will keep a mountain planted. Sincere repentance of sin and forgiveness of others will allow you to put mountain-moving words and faith to your situation.

Proverbs 13:12 NLT says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick…” but it finishes by saying, “but when dreams come true, there is life and joy.” Jesus said, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” That means there is hope for you and for your mountain to be moved. I have stood many times in faith, praying with one of my prayer partners, speaking to issues and problems the size of mountains. We have stood in patience and faith,  and we have seen mountain-sized problems move again and again. Some took time, and others, not so long!  Impossibilities become possibilities in God. So speak to yours, keeping Jesus’ first words in mind… “Have faith in God.”

1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV) “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”
