The Holy Spirit, God’s Love and Power, Your Inheritance

God loves you—more than you know! He wants you to know this. Why? Because then you might stop thinking that bad things that are attacking your life are because of, or from Him. Then you might instead pay more attention to the good He is doing in your life. Then when you pray asking for His help, you’ll have sincere faith that He delights in helping you! If you know that someone really loves you, you carry those kinds of expectations.

So, I’ll say it again. God loves you. He really wants you to know and believe that. That’s why the Apostle Paul prayed about the increase of your personal revelation of how much God loves you. He prayed, “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Ephesians 3:18-19 (NLT)

Look at the closing words of this verse again. “…Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Why does it say that? Why would you then be filled with the fullness of life and power? Because if you walked in the full revelation of how much God loves you, you would have a confidence in Him working in you, and working through you! This is something to pause and meditate on!

Again the verse says, “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love really is.” Those first words, “may you have the power to understand”—from the Greek literally mean and say this: “May you be completely confident and have full strength to eagerly take, seize, possess, attain, apprehend, and take hold of…” This is not a passive statement. It’s aggressive saying that as you pray, you should confidently expect God to reveal His love to you in a way that you can take hold of, AND, an ever-increasing knowledge of it. And, if you do, then you will “…be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Revelation of His love translates into confidence of His Holy Spirit and power working in your life!

Are you a believer? Have you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If the answer is yes, then the Holy Spirit lives within you! Period! And because that’s true, then the Holy Spirit is always working to reveal and confirm God’s love and God’s promises to you! You may not be paying attention but God is calling to you through the Holy Spirit in you! God calls Him “the Holy Spirit of promise!” We see this in Ephesians 1:13-14 NKJV,  “In whom you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after you believed, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, Who is the guarantee of our inheritance…”

I know this verse can be difficult to take hold of because it is filled with such rich words. But, it’s saying that you have the Holy Spirit of promise! The more time you spend with God in His Word and prayer, the more you can sense Him within you. He’s leading you! He’s the reason you think about God and about doing His will. He’s the reason you want to resist evil in your life. This verse says that when Jesus died and arose, to those who would believe, the Holy Spirit was the down payment for all that God would bless us with over time. And so we read, “…we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.” That means we have His stamp upon our lives. It is the Holy Spirit of promise who guarantee’s our inheritance—all that God has promised us! That starts with God’s love and includes all His promised blessing. This should excite us, stir our faith, and help us to ask and receive God’s help in every areas of our life.

Although the devil would always try to condemn you and point out your faults and flaws, the Holy Spirit will always remind you of God’s love, mercy and grace. He will always lead and help you in all areas of your life. You take hold of this by faith and talk to and thank God for it. You aren’t to be led by feelings, omens, or superstition, and certainly not by the devil, whose fate is sealed forever. You are to be led by God’s Spirit and all He is to you—the Holy Spirit of promise! Wow! That’s how to start out your thinking and communion in with Him each day! God desires to lead you in your inheritance of blessing! Don’t let anything else tell you differently. You are marked with God. You are marked for God. Be led by God!

Ephesians 1:14 (NLT) “The Spirit is God’s guarantee that He will give us the inheritance He promised and that He has purchased us to be His own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify Him.”
