The Strength, Comfort, and Peace You Need

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

The world is filled with people living life through difficult circumstances. They desperately want to be comforted in their hearts that there is hope in their future. It’s difficult to live in constant turmoil or seasons of trouble and pain without being able to find some kind of peace, comfort, and strength.

Throughout the ages, man has invented and looked to artificial means of finding temporary escapes and contrived sources of peace, comfort, and strength. Life teaches us that when people don’t know God and live in consistent turmoil, they work to create artificial comforts by medicating themselves through any variety of alcohols, drugs, and pleasure (sexual or other) and look for distractions to numb their minds from their current reality. For many today, that’s social media, video games, and media binging.

Mankind’s also created false sources of peace through idols, imagined spiritual beings, praying to the dead, horoscopes, and the occult. Not only are these things scripturally unfounded, they are an abomination to the Lord. They are because God knows they are false hopes when He desires to give you real peace and hope.

Ecclesiastes says “There is nothing new under the sun.” False promises of peace and comfort from people or things that cannot bring peace has been offered through the ages. We read in Habakkuk 2:18 (TLB) “What profit was there in worshiping all your man-made idols? What a foolish lie that they could help! What fools you were to trust what you yourselves had made.”

If your source(s) of supernatural help, comfort, or peace comes from anyone other than God, it’s not a real source and it won’t bring peace. It will ultimately help steal it.

You might ask, Why would God WANT to help us?  The answer is simple. He wants to help us because of the depth of His love for us. We are His creation and the love of His existence. We may think deep down that we don’t deserve it, but that did not deter God from sending Jesus to die on the cross to save us from our sins! Titus 3: 4-5 NIV describes it saying, “…  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy…”

Think about those words and begin to thank God for this kind of love and you will feel His peace and comfort come. We can draw peace and strength from His promises of love and help such as in Psalm 91:4-7 NLT.  “…His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor fear the dangers of the day, nor dread the plague that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you…”

His Word is filled with promises of His love and help! As we stand in faith for His promised help, strength, and peace, trusting that He is true to His word, we will being to see it manifest in our lives! That’s not imaginary! That’s real! Philippians 4:6 (NLT) says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all He has done.”

I remember when I was a younger man with four small children and more needs that words could say. I had plenty of opportunity to worry. Renee and I made the decision to reject worrying and instead pray and proclaim God’s promises continuously over our lives. We weren’t expecting magic. We were expecting God to lead us in peace through our tough situations, helping us in each step along the way. And He did! Little blessings–touches of His love and assurance and help that could be missed by unthankful people, happened in our lives again and again. Some thought we were just lucky! We weren’t. Jesus died to pay the price for our blessings and we simply and wholeheartedly believed that! We could see the touch of His love and answer to our prayers. He was always with us!  2 Corinthians 1:20 was a core belief for us saying, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ…”

His promises have continually manifested over time and our lives are filled with evidence of His goodness and promises fulfilled today!

God is our source–our only source of comfort, strength and peace. Philippians 4:7 TLB, says it best! “If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Don’t let your thinking, hope or life be infiltrated or contaminated by those things which could never truly bring you peace, comfort and strength. There is only one source and that is our Living God! We have access to Him and His promises through Jesus Christ alone.  If you have not already, receive Him into your heart today! Isaiah 41:10  “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”
