The Worries of Provision, the Promises of Faith

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

Provision is something that people think a lot about in life. Probably more than we care to admit! That’s why Jesus addressed it when He taught, saying, Luke 12:22-25 (NIV), “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

When our family was young, it was normal for me to wonder and have the thought, God, How is this all going to work out? How am I going to afford to put four children through school, afford braces, clothes, college, and on and on? I’d think, I’m not smart enough or skilled enough to provide all this for my family. The Lord would remind me of the scriptures we just read and to lay those cares at His feet, remembering Jesus gave His life so we could have faith and expectation of His blessing and help. And then the Lord would remind me of the promise of Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV) that says, “Now to Him (Jesus) who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…”

“The power that works in us…” is our faith in the fact that Jesus intimately loves and cares for us and desires to help us in every step of our lives. I don’t know about you, but I never stopped being dependent upon Him. I wake up almost every day thinking and praying, Jesus, you said, without me, I can do nothing! I know that is the truth, and so I lean completely upon your word and promises by faith today!

I  do need His help every day. And every day, I lean on His precious promise that says He will do “exceedingly abundantly above all that I can ask or think.”

Renee and I have been reflecting on how God has helped us and blessed us through all the years. He has truly gone far beyond what we could have ever imagined or asked. We are so thankful to the Lord, not just for helping and taking care of us, but for allowing us to know Him and have this place of faith where we can cast our cares and trust Him.

And so today, whatever cares or needs that come to mind that the enemy might try to get you to worry about, I pray that you will prayerfully leave them and Jesus’ feet and thank Him for doing exceedingly abundantly above all you can ask or think, in Jesus name. Amen.  Oh, and don’t ever forget that Renee and I pray for you each and every day! We truly do!

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)  “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”
