Fresh Mannaby Pastor Tim BurtOne night, Renee and I were coming home from a friend’s house. We were stopped at an intersection with a red light, waiting for it to change. Suddenly, a minivan came charging up behind us, then quickly whipped into the left-turn lane, where the light was just about to turn red. The vehicle didn’t slow down or stop but instead raced through the intersection as the light turned red. I thought the van was going to flip over. It didn’t—the wheels just squealed as it sped through. On the opposite side of the highway, two motorcyclists were also waiting for their light to turn green. Just as they were about to take off, the minivan ran the red light and turned directly into their path. Thank God they hesitated before accelerating—otherwise, both riders would have been killed. I found myself praising God they hadn’t been hit. As our light changed and we continued on our way, I couldn’t shake the thought of how close they had come to losing their lives because of someone else’s reckless actions. This moment reinforced something I’ve often thought about: If someone makes it to adulthood, at some point in their life, they have almost certainly experienced God’s protection or even His miracle-working power. Why do I say this? Because time and again, I’ve asked people, Can you remember a time when you almost died but were spared? And I have yet to meet someone who couldn’t recall such a moment. Stop and think—have you ever had a time when your life was almost taken, yet you were spared? If you’re in a break room or sitting at a lunch table today, ask a few people that question. I think you’ll be amazed at the stories you hear. Many people believe they can’t see God at work in their lives, yet He has already shown up—rescuing them from the reckless decisions of themselves or someone else, or even a freak accident. God is constantly revealing His love and working to protect us from the destructive forces at play in this world. And He says to us "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)Maybe you’re facing trouble right now, wondering, "Where is God in all of this?" If you can’t see Him in your current situation, then look back. Remember the times He has helped you, delivered you, and protected you. Let those moments turn your worry into prayers of thanksgiving and faith, knowing that the same God who saved you then is with you now.Jesus has saved you from eternal destruction and given you eternal life. He loves you and helped you before you even knew or understood, and He will help you now. That is His will and His love toward you! Pray, have faith, and trust Him!Isaiah 41:10 (NLT) Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.In His love,Pastor Tim Burt
