There are few things in life more satisfying than watching something grow. You plant it, water it, tend to it—and over time, something begins to change. What once seemed small or unimpressive slowly becomes strong, full, and beautiful. Growth has a quiet way of rewarding patience. In my garden, I have a perennial shrub called an Incrediball bush.

Every year, it comes back a little taller, a little fuller, a little stronger. And then one day in late spring, it bursts into these large, white blossoms—full, round, and stunning. For about a month, it’s spectacular. You can’t miss it. It stands there as a visible reminder of what time, care, and steady growth can produce. But those blossoms didn’t show up overnight—they’re the result of unseen growth, deep roots, and consistent seasons.

It reminds me of something even more meaningful—spiritual growth. We love to see growth in the people we cherish. Watching children grow isn’t just about getting taller—it’s about watching their personalities unfold, their confidence develop, and their kindness deepen.

There’s something deeply joyful in seeing who they are becoming. And in the same way, there’s something beautiful about spiritual growth in a person’s life. Growth matters. It’s not always loud, and it’s not always fast, but it’s always important. Sometimes it looks like greater patience where there used to be frustration, gentleness where there used to be harshness, or quiet trust where there used to be anxiety. And just like that Incrediball Bush, others begin to notice—not because you’re trying to impress anyone, but because something real has taken place inside of you.

Colossians 2:6–7 (NLT) — And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him. Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

God never intended for us to stay the same. He delights in our growth and works in the hidden places of our hearts—shaping us, strengthening us, and preparing us to reflect Him more clearly. Growth is not about perfection; it’s about progress. Year after year, season after season, God is faithfully working in you—even when you don’t see it right away. And one day, just like those beautiful blossoms, it becomes evident—not just to you, but to everyone around you. So keep walking with Him, keep trusting Him, and keep growing. There is nothing more beautiful than a life steadily being shaped by God.

Philippians 1:6 (NLT) — And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for the work You are doing in my life—even when I don’t always see it. Help me to be patient in the process and faithful in the small things. Let my roots grow deep in You so that my life will reflect Your goodness in a way that blesses others. Continue shaping me, strengthening me, and helping me grow into all You’ve called me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
