Fresh Mannaby Pastor Tim BurtSmall Steps to Building Great CourageIn my last post, From Ordinary to Courageous, we talked about how God uses ordinary people who step out in courage for God and plant significant seeds of impact that change things for the better. Today I wanted to simply give you a few examples of places where you might practice steps of courage so that God can work in you and through you. The following is just to prod your thinking. Please pray a simple prayer asking God to help you notice moments of opportunity to be courageous, and then to help you step out in faith and walk in them. Experiencing God helping you be courageous is how you grow in courage. Please look at this list several times this week and lift a simple prayer to God to help you be courageous in the moment He opens to you! God bless you, Pastor Tim

  • Encourage someone – Send a kind text, write a note, or give a genuine compliment to lift someone's spirit.
  • Serve someone – Help a neighbor, hold the door open for someone, or lend a hand to a coworker.
  • Give generously – Donate to someone in need, your church, or a ministry.
  • Give an unexpected hand – Open a door, help with a simple task, help a stranger
  • Share your faith – Mention your relationship with God in a natural way during a conversation.
  • Thank God openly – Pause and say grace before a meal or "Praise God" even in public, as a testimony of gratitude to God.
  • Help the overlooked – Acknowledge the cashier, delivery person, or someone who often goes unnoticed with a thank-you or kind word.
  • Sharing your faith – Talking to a friend or coworker about Jesus, even if you're unsure of how they’ll respond.
  • Apologizing first – Taking responsibility for your actions and seeking reconciliation, even when it’s hard to admit you were wrong.
  • Tithing or giving generously – Trusting God with your finances, especially when it feels like you don’t have enough to give.
  • Choosing purity – Upholding God’s standard for sexual purity, even when others pressure you to compromise.
  • Go to church - Maybe something offended you or stopped you and you fell out of the joy of going to church. Don't take it out on God. He wants you there.
  • Inviting someone to church – Asking a friend or neighbor to attend with you, knowing they might decline or react awkwardly.
  • Choosing integrity at work – Refusing to cut corners, lie, or engage in unethical practices, even if it costs you a promotion or favor.
  • Praying publicly – Bowing your head in prayer or saying grace at a restaurant, showing your faith openly.
  • Walking away from temptation – Leaving a situation or relationship that tempts you to sin, even when it feels easier to stay.
  • Breaking free from unhealthy influences – Setting boundaries or cutting ties with toxic friendships or habits that pull you away from God.
  • Admitting your faith to others – Sharing that you’re a Christian, even when it might bring awkwardness or judgment.
  • Whatever takes courage that you think God would have you do!

Micah 6:8 (NKJV) "He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?"These are just a few acts of obedience that may seem small, but they require boldness and trust in God and are small steps toward building courage. Have a courage week and step out of your box in some way for God. Ask God to help you in the moment and trust He will. Courage is beautiful. The devil will mock you! Mock Him by honoring God instead! God bless you!In His love,Pastor Tim Burt
