Warning: What you are about to read could change your life forever!
For years, I’ve been deeply concerned about the spiritual and moral direction of our nation. Like many believers, I felt compelled to get involved and have done so in various ways over the years, taking a stand to help shape the culture and influence political outcomes. There is value in civic involvement, and it’s essential for Christians to be salt and light in every sphere of life. But as I became more aware of the depth of corruption, deception, and moral decay across our land, I began to feel the weight of it all pressing on my heart. It was affecting my peace and, at times, even my hope.
Then one day, as I was praying about these things, the Lord drew my attention to the verses that have fueled and focused my prayers, turning me into a fervent and frequent pray-er. 1 Timothy 2:1–2 (NIV), “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
I had always focused on the part of praying for those in authority! But this time it was different. It was as if the words came alive in my heart: "...that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” I had only really focused on who to pray for. But, as I read it, this time the Holy Spirit illuminated the later part of the verse. God spoke to me that the most powerful thing we can do as Christians is pray and intercede in faith for the leadership of our nation in ever arena of life, but then have faith that God is and will move powerfully through our prayers and far beyond civic responsibility. He instructed me, "Don't put your faith in your efforts to change society, but put all your faith in Me moving through your prayers! That is the only way you will receive the peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and holiness that I said you could and should have. This alone will keep you in peace!
Wow! That was so powerful! Why? Because our political actions though important, are small and seldom happen in a time frame our heart hopes for. It is by putting our faith in the intercession of our prayers to God for our leaders that we can have great faith and peace and live in godliness and holiness. Our prayers is what God uses to bring change and when God moves, we'll see it. But in the meantime, our faithfulness to pray knowing God will move is how we can live in peace and godliness. Circumstances do not bring lasting peace. Politics do not bring us lasting peace. Our faith in God's prayers keep us praying and help us have peace so we don't panic and step out of godliness and holiness from feeling hopeless and full of despair.
That revelation changed my outlook completely. My faith deepened, and my prayer life took on a new dimension. The Lord began to show me that peace doesn’t come from feeling like I can fix what’s broken in the world—it comes from trusting that He can. My responsibility is to pray in faith according to His will and to believe that He is faithful to act in His perfect time.
With this revelation from God, the eyes of my heart opened! I began to see tangible results. Leaders who had walked in deception were being exposed. Unrighteous systems, corruption, fraud, and lies of all kinds were being challenged and exposed. And even as darkness continued to spread in some areas, light began to pierce through in others. I saw revival stirring in unexpected places—people worshiping Jesus openly, turning back to faith, and boldly proclaiming truth. My spirit knew: this is the fruit of prayer—mine and countless others who have been interceding faithfully.
Now I no longer carry the same burden of despair when I watch the news or hear of political chaos. Instead, I feel a deeper compassion and an urgency to pray. Every time I lift up leaders in any area of life, I remind myself that prayer isn’t passive—it’s powerful! When believers pray with pure motives and steadfast faith, God moves mountains we could never move ourselves. He raises up godly men and women of influence and brings down those who oppose His ways. And in doing so, He grants His people what we long for—the ability to live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and holiness—a peace that can only come from trusting God!
If you’ve felt the same heaviness about the state of our world, don’t let it rob your peace. Let it drive you to prayer. Intercede for your leaders—local, national, and global. Thank God for those who stand for truth, and pray for those blinded by deception. Trust that the Lord hears and responds to the prayers of His people.
Over time, you will begin to see God raise up leaders who stand against unrighteousness, work against lawlessness, and restore order and justice to our land. You will see corruption exposed and evil and wicked people brought to justice. You will witness righteousness rise, a move of God take hold, and revival begin to sweep across the nation. And in that place, you will see God working through your long-term, diligent, faith-filled prayers for the leaders of our nation—those God raises up to help guide us back to righteousness, godliness and peace.
Even before those good things come to pass, you’ll feel a deeper peace in your heart, knowing you’re doing the most important thing—praying for your nation. You can rest in absolute confidence that, no matter how things appear, God is working behind the scenes through your prayers. That assurance will fill you with peace beyond understanding, as you trust Him to move both in your life and in your nation.
Daniel 2:21 (NIV) “He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me that true power lies not in politics, but in prayer. Strengthen my faith to believe that You are working through every sincere prayer I pray for this nation and its leaders. Raise up godly men and women, and tear down corruption and unrighteousness. Bring revival, truth, and peace to our land, so that we may live quiet and godly lives before You. I trust You completely, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
