Fresh Mannaby Pastor Tim BurtA Christmas Miracle in the ParkCam Hayes sat across from the corporate attorney in their cramped living room, the man’s polished leather shoes out of place against the scuffed linoleum floor. Beside him, Cheryl clutched his hand, her eyes wide with disbelief.“I’ll be brief,” the attorney began, adjusting his tie. “Your late brother, Jason Hayes, has left you his entire estate, valued at approximately $10 million. The process of transferring the assets will take a couple of months, but I have authorization to release a $20,000 cash account to you immediately.”Cam and Cheryl sat frozen. Cam’s throat tightened as he struggled to find words. “Jason… is gone?” His voice cracked. The news of his older brother’s sudden death hit him harder than the news of the inheritance.“Yes, Mr. Hayes,” the attorney said softly. “He passed from a brain aneurysm last month. In his will, he expressed his deep gratitude for you, and his desire for you to be the recipient of his estate.”Tears welled in Cam’s eyes. “We didn’t talk much these past years,” he murmured, his voice heavy with regret. Cheryl squeezed his hand. She knew how deeply Cam had loved his brother, despite the miles and years that had separated them. The attorney handed over the bank documents and the $20,000 account. “Merry Christmas,” he said before leaving them to process the unimaginable news. The next day, December 23, Cam walked through the snow-dusted streets of their trailer park, his mind a whirlwind. He and Cheryl had always lived simply, scraping by on his cemetery worker’s salary. He had never been able to give her the kind of life she deserved—or even much for Christmas. But now, things were different. He could finally give Cheryl something special. That afternoon, Cam visited a department store for the first time in years. He purchased an elegant gold necklace, a designer handbag, and the finest coat he could find—items Cheryl would never have dreamed of owning. On Christmas morning, he presented the gifts to her, his heart swelling with pride as he watched her open each box.Cheryl’s eyes filled with tears, but not the kind he expected. She set the gifts aside gently and took his hands in hers. “Cam,” she said, her voice soft, “these are beautiful, and I love you for thinking of me. But I’ve never had much in my life, and I’ve never needed much. These things don’t mean that much to me.”Cam blinked, stunned. “But Cheryl… I just wanted to show you how much I love you.”She smiled, her eyes shining. “I know you do, Cam. You show me every day, just by being the man you are. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.”The next day, Cheryl returned the expensive gifts and came home with the cash in hand. “I’ve been thinking,” she said, her cheeks pink from the cold. “The kids in this trailer park have so little. Why don’t we use this money to bless them instead?”Cam felt a lump in his throat. “You want to buy gifts for the kids?”She nodded. “Yes. And not just toys. Warm coats, shoes, and whatever else we can manage. It’s Christmas, Cam. Let’s show them what it’s really about.”Together, they spent Christmas Eve shopping for the kids in their neighborhood. They filled their old station wagon with brightly wrapped gifts, essentials like gloves and hats, and bags of food for struggling families. That night, as snow fell softly, they delivered the packages to each trailer, leaving them on porches or slipping them quietly through doors. On Christmas morning, the park came alive with joy. Children squealed with delight as they unwrapped gifts they never expected. Parents wept with gratitude for the kindness shown to them. Cam and Cheryl stood at their window, watching the scene unfold with tears in their eyes.Cheryl leaned her head on Cam’s shoulder. “You know,” she said, “all of this reminds me of what God gave us on that first Christmas—a gift we could never earn or repay.”Cam nodded, his heart swelling with gratitude. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” (Isaiah 9:6, KJV). “We have the greatest gift of all—our salvation through Jesus Christ. Nothing else could ever come close.”That evening, as the sun set over the snow-covered trailers, the neighborhood gathered around a makeshift Christmas tree Cam had set up in the park’s center. Someone started singing “O Holy Night,” and soon, the air was filled with voices raised in praise.Cam and Cheryl held hands, their hearts full. The inheritance had changed their circumstances, but it hadn’t changed them. They knew that true riches were not found in money or possessions but in the love they shared, the joy they gave, and the Savior they worshipped. And so, in that humble trailer park, the light of Christ shone brightly, reminding everyone that the greatest gifts are those given from the heart.Matthew 6:3-4 (NIV) "But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."In His love,Pastor Tim Burt
