Today, I sat next to an elderly man at a bus stop. He was holding a bouquet of flowers. I asked if they were for someone special, and he smiled. “They were for my wife,” he said. “I bring her fresh flowers every Sunday.” After a pause, he added, “She’s been gone five years, but love doesn’t stop.”
Today, a single mother of three was struggling at the checkout counter when her card was declined. Just as she was about to put groceries back, the young cashier quietly swiped his own card to cover the balance. She tried to refuse, but he simply said, “I remember what it was like when my mom needed help.”
Today, I saw a little boy drop his ice cream cone on the sidewalk. Before he could cry, a man sitting nearby handed him his own ice cream and said, “I think I’m full anyway.” The boy’s face lit up with joy. Today, I visited my grandmother at her nursing home. She didn’t remember my name, but she held my hand and said, “I don’t know who you are, but I can tell you love me.”
Today, I got a flat tire in the pouring rain. As I struggled to change it, an old man in a rusted pickup pulled over. He changed the tire with practiced ease, then gave me a thermos of coffee and said, “Someone helped me once, so now I help when I can.”
Today, a five-year-old girl at the park was picking dandelions and giving them to strangers. When asked why, she simply said, “Because flowers make everyone happy and everyone deserves some happiness.”
Today, I was waiting for my coffee when the barista announced a pay-it-forward chain had been going for 17 customers. The woman ahead of me smiled and said, “Make it 18.”
Today, my father, who has Alzheimer’s, didn’t recognize me. But when I played his favorite song on the piano, he closed his eyes, tapped his fingers, and softly sang every word.
Today, I watched a man sit on the sidewalk next to a homeless teenager, handing him a sandwich and asking his name. They sat and talked for an hour. Before leaving, the man handed him a slip of paper. “That’s my number. If you ever need a fresh start, call me.”
Today, my flight was delayed for hours. Instead of complaining, an elderly couple pulled out a deck of cards and invited the people sitting nearby to play. By the time we boarded, we were all laughing like old friends.
Today, my 10-year-old son emptied his piggy bank and asked me to take him to the store. “What are we buying?” I asked. “New socks and gloves,” he said. “For the man who sleeps outside the library.”
Today, I was at a restaurant when I saw an exhausted nurse sitting alone, staring at her untouched meal. A little boy walked up, handed her a drawing, and said, “Thank you for helping sick people.” She held the picture as if it were today.
It's easy to feel unnoticed for the good you do for others. But even if no one else was watching, God sees it all and has rewards in Heaven for those who pass on the love from a pure heart! God bless you for doing so!
Hebrews 6:10 (NIV) "God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them."
