Somewhere along life’s journey, you’ve likely heard the words of Jesus: “To whom much is given, much will be required.” Those words aren’t meant to discourage you—they are meant to awaken you. They reveal that the life you’ve been given in Christ is not ordinary. It is a high calling.
When you gave your life to Jesus, everything changed. You didn’t just receive forgiveness—you were made new. God forgave your sin, restored your relationship with Him, and placed His Holy Spirit within you. You were spiritually reborn, and in that moment, the life of Christ was placed inside of you. But here’s the truth many believers overlook: the calling of Christ became your calling. Jesus didn’t save you just to bring you to heaven one day—He saved you so His life could be lived through you today.
You were not only saved from something—you were saved into something. You were called to reflect Christ in your thoughts, your actions, your character, and your love for others. That means your life now carries purpose beyond yourself. Scripture says you have been made a minister of reconciliation. In other words, God desires to use your life to draw others back to Him.
2 Corinthians 5:17–18 (TLB) “When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand-new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun! All these new things are from God, who brought us back to Himself through what Christ Jesus did. And God has given us the privilege of urging everyone to come into His favor and be reconciled to Him.”
This is the high calling of Christ—and it is now your calling. At first, that can feel overwhelming. How can you possibly live up to it? How can you reflect Jesus when you still struggle? The answer is grace.
Grace is not just what saved you—it is what sustains and empowers you. It is God working in you, helping you become what you could never become on your own. Without grace, this calling would feel impossible. But with grace, it becomes a journey of growth instead of a burden of perfection.
God is not asking you to live perfectly—He is asking you to walk with Him daily. He invites you to seek Him, to learn His ways, and to allow His Spirit to shape your life. The degree to which you pursue Him will determine the degree to which His life is seen in you. He won’t force change, but He will faithfully lead you as you follow Him.
This calling is not about rules—it is about love. It is what Scripture calls the royal law. Instead of asking, “What can I get away with?” you begin asking, “How can I live in a way that honors God and blesses others?” That shift is the life of Christ being formed within you.
James 2:8 (NIV) “If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing right.”
When you begin to live this way, people notice. They see something different. They see peace in difficulty, kindness instead of selfishness, and hope in uncertain times. What they are seeing is Jesus in you. Your life becomes a light pointing others toward Him.
And here’s the encouragement you need to hold onto: you don’t carry this calling in your own strength. The Holy Spirit within you is your helper, your strength, and your guide. When you fall short—and you will—He lifts you, corrects you, and leads you forward again. When the enemy whispers “failure,” God reminds you that He is still working in you.
This high calling is not about perfection—it’s about pursuit. It’s about saying “yes” to God again and again. It’s about pressing forward, choosing obedience, and allowing Him to shape your life over time.
Yes, much has been given to you. But what is required is not that you become perfect—it is that you live surrendered, dependent on His grace, and willing to let His life shine through you.
The high calling of Christ is your calling. So live it—by His grace.
Philippians 3:14 (KJV) “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for saving me and placing Your life within me. Help me to understand that Your calling is now my calling. Teach me to walk closely with You and to depend on Your grace each day. Shape my heart to love others and to live in a way that reflects You. When I fall short, lift me up and remind me that You are still working in me. Give me the strength to press forward in the high calling You have placed on my life. Use me to point others to You, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
