Abortion Can Destroy a Nation

Throughout history, nations have risen and fallen not merely by military strength or economic power, but by their moral posture before God. One of the most dangerous sins a nation can commit is arrogance—the belief that it knows better than God what is right, good, and acceptable. Arrogance is not just personal pride; it becomes national rebellion when a culture decides it has the authority to redefine life, truth, and morality.

The Bible gives sobering examples of nations that crossed this line.

In the ancient world, several cultures practiced child sacrifice. The Canaanites and the Ammonites worshiped false gods such as Molech, offering their children in fire as an act of devotion. God did not view this as merely a different religious practice or cultural expression. He called it an abomination.

Leviticus 20:2–3 says, “You shall not let any of your descendants pass through the fire to Molech… I will set My face against that man and cut him off from his people.”

These nations believed their prosperity, security, and future justified the killing of their children. Their arrogance convinced them that convenience, fear, or perceived benefit outweighed the value of innocent life. Scripture tells us exactly what happened next: God judged them, removed them from the land, and warned Israel not to follow their example.

Tragically, Israel did not always listen.

Psalm 106:37–38 says, “They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons… and the land was polluted with blood.”

God’s judgment was not sudden or impulsive. It came after patience, warnings, and calls to repentance. But when a nation persists in calling evil good and silencing its conscience, judgment eventually follows. History—and Scripture—are consistent on this point.

This brings us to our own time.

Abortion is often framed today as a matter of convenience, autonomy, or personal choice. But when stripped of its language and justifications, abortion involves the deliberate ending of an innocent human life. The unborn child is voiceless, defenseless, and entirely dependent—precisely the kind of life God repeatedly commands His people to protect.

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you.”

The taking of a fetus’s life because it is inconvenient is an abomination to the Lord. It reflects the same arrogance seen in ancient cultures—the belief that we can decide which lives are valuable and which are expendable. While the methods have changed, the moral offense has not.

Yet Scripture never leaves us without hope.

One of the greatest and most overlooked solutions to abortion is adoption. What is rarely discussed is this: in the United States alone, there are nearly two million couples waiting and approved to adopt, while only a fraction of that number of infants are placed for adoption each year. The problem is not a lack of willing parents. The problem is a culture that too often chooses death over life.

Adoption reflects the very heart of God.

Ephesians 1:5 says, “He predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.”

God does not discard the inconvenient or the unexpected. He redeems, restores, and places the vulnerable into families. Adoption turns crisis into calling and transforms fear into future. It is not merely a social solution—it is a gospel solution.

A nation’s true strength is revealed not in how it treats the powerful, but in how it protects the weak beginning with the unborn. When arrogance rules, compassion dies. When humility returns, life is honored again.

Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."

May God grant us the humility to repent, the courage to speak truth, and the compassion to choose life—before arrogance destroys what He desires to heal.

Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “Choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”

Prayer: Dear Lord, forgive us for the ways we have allowed arrogance to replace reverence and convenience to overshadow compassion. Restore in us a heart that values life as You do. Give us courage to stand for truth, wisdom to act with grace, and love to offer hope where there is fear. Heal our land by turning our hearts back to You, and help us to choose life in every way. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
