Listen to these words describing God’s greatness and mighty power:

Jeremiah 32:18–20 (TLB): “You are the great and powerful God, the Lord Almighty. You have all wisdom and do great and mighty miracles. You are very aware of the conduct of all people, and You reward them according to their deeds. You performed miraculous signs and wonders in the land of Egypt—things still remembered to this day! And You have continued to do great miracles in Israel and all around the world. You have made Your name very great, as it is today.”

God is great and mighty—and He invites us to know Him personally.

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV): “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”

Those words should stir our hearts to seek God for the great and mighty things He desires to reveal. We are made in the image of God, and through Jesus Christ, His life now dwells within us. But if we don’t allow God to define what “great and mighty” truly means, we may confuse it with worldly success and miss the blessing behind His intent.

God alone is God. He alone raises up and brings down kings and those in authority. He alone created the heavens and the earth and designed the complexity of the human body and the vast galaxies we now gaze upon. Compared to Him, human accomplishment is small.

The great and mighty things God calls us to are not rooted in pride, ego, wealth, or recognition. They are not driven by the applause of people. True greatness flows from obedience to the Holy Spirit—obedience that brings the touch of God into the lives of others. Jesus demonstrated this perfectly.

Jesus came not only to reconcile us to God, but to show us what great and mighty living looks like. His life was marked by love, mercy, compassion, and sacrifice. From His birth to the cross, He lived selflessly, touching lives through both His words and actions. He showed us how to walk this out day by day.

We may not see miracles every time we pray, but when we pray in faith, God does move. And at times, we witness moments so unexplainable that we know they could only be the hand of God.

An unbeliever can do good works—and those works matter. But only a believer can bring God’s supernatural presence through prayer and faith. Good works bless people; prayer and God’s anointing bring Heaven’s touch. That is what Jesus carried—and what He entrusted to us.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." John 14:12 (NIV)

I see those “greater works” happening all the time through ordinary people who are simply yielded to God.

I’ve watched a young woman walk through cancer treatment while people from our church surrounded her family with meals, encouragement from God’s Word, and faithful prayer. They stood with her week after week, believing God together. Today, she is healed and doing well.

During a bitter Minnesota winter, I watched a man skilled in heating and air conditioning repair the furnace of a family who had been without heat. He didn’t do it for money. He did it out of the love of God in his heart. When the job was finished, he asked if he could pray with them. They were moved to tears, encouraged, and reminded that God had heard their prayers and sent help.

I’ve watched families, motivated purely by God’s love, intentionally set aside money each month so they could bless other families in need at Christmas. I’ve seen hundreds of people deliver Thanksgiving baskets filled with food—and a message of God’s love—to those in our community. I’ve served alongside people feeding the homeless. Renee has taken women into mission fields to bring supplies to the destitute and to pray with the sick, the poor, the homeless, and those devastated by disaster. Many of those touched by these acts later became part of a church family.

Recently, someone told me that after I prayed for severe pain in their arm and shoulder—pain they had endured for months—they were completely healed just a few days later.

These moments may not make headlines in the news, but they make headlines in the hearts of those they touch. These are the great and mighty things God values. They flow from compassion, sacrifice, prayer, and obedience. They are what God places in our hearts when we pay attention to His leading.

This is what makes life truly rich. Blessing doesn’t come from getting—it comes from giving. It comes from offering the touch of Jesus’ love in the many ways He leads us, day in and day out.

My prayer for you is simple: ask God to help you walk in the great and mighty things He has prepared for you. Then pay close attention to how He leads. You will be changed—and others will be blessed through you.

Hebrews 10:24 (NLT): “Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds.”
