The Worries of Provision, the Promises of Faith

Provision is something people think about a lot in life—probably more than we care to admit. That’s why Jesus addressed it so clearly when He taught.

Luke 12:22–25 (NIV) “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

When our family was young, it was common for me to wonder, God, how is this all going to work out? How am I going to afford to put four children through school—braces, clothes, college, and everything else that comes along the way? I would think, I’m not smart enough or skilled enough to provide all of this.

The Lord would gently remind me of the words of Jesus we just read and prompt me to lay those cares at His feet. He would remind me that Jesus gave His life so we could live with faith—faith that expects His help and provision. And again and again, He would bring to my heart this promise:

Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV) “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

That phrase—“the power that works in us”—is our faith. It is our confidence that Jesus loves us deeply, cares about every detail of our lives, and desires to help us every step of the way.

I don’t know about you, but I never stopped being dependent on Him. I wake up most days thinking and praying, Jesus, You said, ‘Without Me you can do nothing.’ I know that is true. So today, I lean fully on Your Word and Your promises by faith.

I need His help every single day. And every day, I hold tightly to His promise that He will do exceedingly abundantly above all I can ask or think.

Renee and I have been reflecting lately on how faithfully God has helped and provided for us through the years. He has gone far beyond anything we could have imagined or asked. We are deeply thankful—not only for His provision, but for allowing us to know Him and to live in a place of trust where we can cast our cares on Him with confidence.

So today, whatever worries or needs may come to your mind—whatever the enemy might try to use to stir anxiety—I pray you will intentionally place those concerns at Jesus’ feet. Thank Him in advance for doing exceedingly abundantly above all you can ask or think.

And please don’t forget—Renee and I pray for you every single day. We truly do.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT) “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”
