Personally, I wish there were never, ever times when I felt at the end of my rope…but in reality, there have more than enough of those times in my life. I also wish there had never been those times when I’ve felt like I lost what is most dear to me. I’m sure if you stop for a minute to reflect on your life, either past or present, you could probably identify more of those times than you care to remember. Those times are painful, and if we’re not careful, they are prime opportunities to feel discouraged, thinking that God has forgotten about us…or to feel anger at Him, feeling like He has let us down. Certainly, the last thing you’d probably say is that you’re blessed! So how could Jesus say that to His followers then…and to us, His followers today? Because it’s not that the blessing is being at the end of the rope or in the losing of what is most dear to you. The blessing that is that in those times when we might feel utterly abandoned and alone, we have Someone who is right there ready to embrace us and to help turn our situation around. And it’s not just anyone…it’s the God of the universe, who is love Himself, and who is more than able and willing to show us out of any dead-end situation. He wants to be more in our lives…to show us how much He loves us…to embrace us…to help us…to be the One most dear to us. So if you’re at the end of your rope, just let go and let yourself free-fall into the wonderful arms of our God!
Matthew 5:3-4 MSG ~ You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. “You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
