Every once in awhile, I have a situation to handle, or a conversation that needs to be had, or a task to be done that I DREAD! And the more I think about it, the greater that dread becomes until I feel anxious, overwhelmed, or left with a sick feeling. But here’s the deal about dread. It’s having anxious, troubled, sick feelings about something that hasn’t even happened…or that may not EVER happen! It’s worrying about something that’s going to happen in the future and imagining all its worst possibilities or outcomes. And if you allow it to invade your thoughts, it’s like an insidious smoke that seeps into all the corners of your mind, until it chokes out your peace, your confidence, and your joy.
So what do you do when you feel that sense of dread? Remember that most times what we dread comes to nothing! The situation isn’t usually as hard to handle as our mind imagined. The conversation doesn’t usually go anything like our mind conjured up. And the task to be done usually isn’t what we so dreaded it would be. And we wind up realizing there was nothing to dread! So have you felt overwhelmed with some dreadful thoughts that have been like an insidious smoke in your mind? Today’s Word is a smoke detector to help you see it…but now it’s up to you to stop thinking those dreadful thoughts. Turn those thoughts instead into a prayer…and He’ll help you be dread-free!
Psalm 53:5 NIV ~ There they were, overwhelmed with dread, where there was nothing to dread!
Philippians 4:6 NLT ~ Don’t worry about [or dread] anything; instead, pray about everything.
