Today, I took my granddaughter to the MN Zoo for the day. It was a beautiful fall day, so we took our time and enjoyed all of the animal exhibits! After walking for nearly four hours, we were finally nearing the end when we passed by a tank for the sea otters. And since one of the otters was swimming close by the observation area, we decided to stop and see just ONE MORE animal. And I’m so glad we did, because the funniest thing happened. The otter followed me, as I walked next to the glass…almost like a dog follows his master. I thought it was maybe my imagination…but then I ran in one direction. And he chased me. So I tried running the other way…and he chased me again. So THEN, I stopped midway, and ran the opposite direction to try to trick him. And HE stopped midway, and chased me back again.
Well, this went on for about 15 minutes. I tried to stop, but he’d just stop and stare at me…waiting. And when I’d finally run and play with him again? He’d get excited, do a flying jump out of the water, and then chase me down again. I hated to finally walk away, because this otter had warmed my heart…seriously! It was absolutely the most unique and fun moment I’ve ever had at a zoo.
And the thing that struck me in the end? How much God must love it when OUR entire focus is on Him…when we act like there’s nothing more important than following after Him…when we act absolutely jump-up-and-down excited when He does something for us that we hope He’ll do…I believe that warms His heart too. A lesson learned…from an otter…will it change me? It sure otter!!
Psalm 63:7-8 AMP ~ For You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice. My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to You…
