Tammy had always trusted God with her whole heart. A devoted young woman, she worked tirelessly at her church in the Human Resources and Accounting department, ensuring that everything ran smoothly behind the scenes. Her faith was her foundation, and she carried it with her in everything she did.

One crisp autumn evening, she returned home from a long day at church, grateful for some quiet time alone. Her small townhome, nestled in a peaceful neighborhood, felt like a safe haven. She locked the door behind her, changed into comfortable clothes, and settled on the couch with her Bible and a cup of tea. She had no idea that in just a few moments, her faith would be tested in a way she never could have imagined. As she turned a page in her Bible, a loud crash shattered the silence. Her heart pounded. The sound had come from downstairs—from the sliding glass door in her kitchen. Ice-cold fear gripped her as she realized someone had broken into her home.

Tammy froze for a moment, then instinctively whispered, “Jesus, help me.” She reached for her phone but suddenly remembered—it was still in her jacket pocket, hanging on the stair railing. Her mind raced. She had no weapon, no way to fight off an intruder. But she had her faith. And she had her voice. Taking a deep breath, she began to pray, whispering Psalm 91:2: “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’

”The footsteps grew louder as the intruder ascended the stairs. A man appeared in the doorway of her bedroom, his eyes dark with malice. Tammy could see his intentions in his expression—he was here to do more than just steal. Terror threatened to paralyze her, but instead of cowering, she did the only thing that came to her heart. She lifted her hands and began to sing. Her voice trembled at first, but then it grew stronger. “Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er…”The man hesitated. His confident stride faltered. He looked around the room as if suddenly unsure of himself.

Tammy closed her eyes and kept singing, pouring her whole being into praise. “Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more! ”When she opened her eyes, the man was no longer looking at her. His face contorted in shock and terror. His gaze was fixed on something behind her. His breathing became erratic, and his body trembled. Then, without warning, he let out a strangled cry and bolted from the room, tearing down the stairs and out through the broken door.

Tammy’s breath came in ragged gasps. She rushed down the stairs, grabbed her phone from her jacket, and called 911. The police arrived quickly, securing her home and assuring her that they would find the man. But nothing could have prepared her for what they would tell her later. When the officers apprehended the intruder and questioned him, they asked why he had fled so suddenly, without stealing anything or harming her. His answer stunned them. “There was a huge dude standing behind her,” he stammered. “He was glowing. I don’t know what that was, but I wasn’t about to mess with it.

”Tears welled in Tammy’s eyes as she listened to the report. She knew exactly who the “huge dude” was. It was the Lord’s protection, His angel standing guard over her, just as He promised in His Word.

Tammy’s home could be repaired. Her heart would heal. But her faith—that unshakable, unbreakable faith—had been strengthened that night in a way she would never forget. Because when she called upon the name of Jesus, He answered. And He sent help.

Isaiah 54:17 (NLT): "But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!"
